Three including Army soldier killed in south Kashmir encounter

Earlier in January, three civilians died when security personnel opened fire to chase away protesters who were throwing stones at an Army convoy passing through Ganovpora village in Shopian district.

After a lull of four days, mayhem returned to Kashmir on Wednesday.

A soldier was martyred and three civilians killed as terrorists clashed with security forces on Wednesday in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district, triggering violent street protests. A top police official told Mirror that searches are underway to find out the bodies of the terrorists.

Another injured person, identified as 30-year-old Aijaz Palla, later succumbed in a hospital, a health official said.

"However, the militants had changed the positions during the night and they managed to flee from the area taking advantage of clashes between stone-pelting youth and security forces".

Meanwhile, authorities have suspended internet mobile service and ordered closure of educational institution in Kulgam and parts of Anantnag as a precautionary measure.

Separatists under the banner of Joint Resistance Leadership have called for a general strike on Thursday against the civilian deaths.

Reports claim the civilian killings were caused after the local populace hindered in the operation of security forces.
