USA judge says Uber drivers are not company's employees

Not all trips are well-serviced by Uber. However, Uber told CNN earlier this year it started running screenings on drivers every two years in mid-2017.

Uber Technologies, Inc. has agreed to expand the proposed settlement it reached with the Federal Trade Commission a year ago over charges that the ride-sharing company deceived consumers about its privacy and data security practices.

Uber stated it considers bicycles and public transport for an easy method to cut back on traffic and environmental congestion. Now the program is being expanded to Washington, D.C.

Apart from this, the Uber app will soon get a new Emergency button named "911 assistance", this emergency button lets passengers connect to emergency services with just one tap on the button.

He added, "We do see this investment in mass transit as an investment that ultimately long term is going to benefit us as well". Following reports in 2014 that Uber employees used an administrative tool internally dubbed God-view to monitor active Uber cars and customers-and sometimes observed specific users' locations for amusement-Uber promised to use a newly created system to monitor and restrict employee access to such information. "By sharing our aggregated and anonymized trip data, Uber can help inform decisions about how to adapt existing infrastructure and invest in future solutions to make our cities more efficient", said Rob Khazzam, general manager of Uber Canada in a April 11th press release.

And in another example of how the company is fashioning itself into an all-inclusive app, it announced a partnership with the transit ticketing service Masabi. Those with existing Hulu Limited Commercials subscriptions are required to switch billing to Spotify in order to enjoy the offer. Translation: More cheapskates using their service = more people they can eventually convert into paid subscribers.

Uber's new ticketing option will be powered by Masabi's Justride SDK, the first and only mobile ticketing SDK for public transit. Uber said that it is committed to providing further links to public transit.

In the revised complaint issued today, the FTC alleges that Uber learned in November 2016 that intruders had again accessed consumer data the company stored on its third-party cloud provider's servers by using an access key an Uber engineer had posted on a code-sharing website.

No stranger to controversy, Uber's rise has not been irresistible, but it is certainly becoming an ubiquitous aspect for many in global cities. Getaround now operates in a handful of large cities, including Chicago, Washington D.C., Los Angeles, Seattle, Boston and Portland.
