Trump Attorney Cohen Is Subject Of Months-Long Federal Criminal Investigation

Mr Cohen, who served for a decade as a lawyer at the Trump Organisation and is a close confidant of Mr Trump, was known to store the conversations using digital files and then replay them for colleagues, according to people who have interacted with him.

The unusual, high-stakes court hearing Friday also featured an appearance by an attorney representing Trump, Joanna Hendon.

Prosecutors revealed the new details about the Michael Cohen investigation after his lawyer appeared in court seeking to temporarily bar prosecutors from reviewing materials that FBI agents seized in a search of Cohen's office, home and hotel room.

The details in court papers came as lawyers for Cohen and Trump sought to block the Department of Justice from examining records and electronic devices, including two cellphones, seized by the Federal Bureau of Investigation on Monday from Cohen's residences, office and safety deposit box.

Prosecutors have been working with a grand jury to investigate Cohen for months, they write, and they have obtained secret warrants on his "multiple different email accounts".

Broidy has stepped down as a deputy fundraising chair for the Republican National Committee, a position that is also held by Cohen.

Trump expected to pardon former Cheney aide Libby
W. washed his hands and turned his back on Libby because he feared that a pardon might make him look complicit in some way. "Mr. Trump's ambiguous statement on the pardon adds fuel to the fire regarding speculation that the pardon means something deeper.

Investigators for Special Counsel Robert Mueller have evidence that Cohen entered the Czech Republic through Germany in late summer 2016, McClatchy reported, citing two unnamed sources.

Mr. Mueller's spokesman declined to comment.

Looks like whatever Mueller found only bolstered their case.

Trump has called the raids a "witch hunt", "an attack on our country" and a violation of rules that ordinarily make lawyer client communications confidential. Agents seized Cohen's computers and phones, as well as documents related to a payment of $130,000 he said he made to former adult film actress Stormy Daniels shortly before the 2016 presidential election. Records related to Cohen's taxi medallion business were also sought.

But, "depending on what else was discussed", the Times disclosed, "the call could be problematic, as lawyers typically advise their clients against discussing investigations". The filter team is working from a list of individuals and companies they've compiled regarding people who aren't Cohen's legal clients.

In forceful language, prosecutors struck back at claims by Trump and others that the Monday raids violated the attorney-client privilege between Trump and Cohen or amounted to an improper extension of the work of Mueller.

Larry Kurtz says three men in a limousine-type SUV had minor injuries, while a 27-year-old woman had critical injuries. Richard Peacock told Deadline that Ferrell's SUV was driving in the HOV lane when the Toyota attempted to get in.

"As a privilege holder, he [Trump] has an acute interest in those proceedings and the manner in which these materials are reviewed", Hendon said, asking Judge Kimba Wood at the US District Court for the Southern District of NY to postpone the hearing until next Monday. Hendon, that claimed she was hired by Trump day, urged Wood maybe not to decide that gets got right up until after she files a short while by Sunday 33, inspection documents that were seized.

The Justice Department is asking for a so-called taint team to vet the material seized in the raids Monday, as is standard process.

Stephen Ryan, a lawyer for Mr. Cohen, referred to his earlier description of the raid as "completely inappropriate and unnecessary".

And it turns out there's no such thing as Donovan-client privilege.

Michael Avenatti, a lawyer for Stormy Daniels, told Reuters on Thursday that Cohen's attorney told him that Cohen will plead the Fifth if his application for a stay is denied.

Cohen has admitted making the payment to Daniels and said he paid from his own pocket from a personal home equity loan.
