Justin Gaethje Promises Five More Unmissable Fights In His MMA Career

The UFC on Fox 29 headliner may very well take its toll on Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje down the road, but it will boost their bank accounts in the more immediate future.

The contender now wants a shot at the UFC Lightweight Title, which is currently held by the undefeated Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Despite still being relatively young at 29 years old, Dustin Poirier has been in the UFC for a long time - debuting in 2012, six years ago. Poirier finished up the fight by dropping Gaethje again against the cage, at which point referee Herb Dean stepped in and pulled him off.

How to Watch Barcelona vs. Valencia
Ernesto Valverde is without two first-team players as Barcelona prepare to welcome Valencia to Camp Nou on Saturday. Valencia - Neto 6, Vezo 5, Garay 6, Gabriel 6, Gaya 7, Soler 6, Parejo 6, Kondogbia 5, Guedes 8, Rodrigo 7, Mina 6.

His initial win streak of 4 fights - which included a win over Max Holloway - was stopped by Chan Sung Jung, and two subsequent winning streaks were snapped by Conor McGregor and Michael Johnson.

Poirier knew his fight with Justin Gaethje would be like this. Poirier went toe-to-toe with Justin Gaethje for three rounds straight before knocking out Gaethje early in the fourth round, making a statement to the rest of the lightweight division. He even seemed to have Poirier almost defeated in the third round off a big left, but an eye poke from Gaethje that resulted in a point deduction gave Poirer time to recover. With a little over three minutes left, Gaethje stunned Poirier with a punch upstairs, and as the fight went to the fence, Gaethje went on the attack. Gaethje also appeared to have Poirier fading after Round 2 by absorbing every combination his opponent could throw without taking a step backward.

Dustin Poirier's boxing looked super crisp in this fight. In the third round I really thought Gaethje had a chance to win the fight with leg kicks but he really didn't get on top of Poirier to much.

Burnley defender Kevin Long: We want Europe for fans
I'm not going to go there, there's no point. "But I've got no loyalties to them any more so hopefully we'll have a good weekend". Wood said: "I had a great time there, I think it's a great club".

Nurmagomedov, who won the title last week with a victory over Al Iaquinta, took note of the performance of both fighters via Twitter, posting "It was a great fight, congratulations both".

What remains unsure, however, is whether Poirier will get his wish for an instant title shot.
