UN body dismisses Russsia's attempt to condemn western allies

Russia, the Syrian regime's top ally, reacted strongly to the air strikes launched by the United States and its allies on Damascus and Homs early Saturday, warning of "consequences".

After a crunch meeting with national security advisors Thursday, the White House said it had not yet decided how to retaliate to last week's suspected chemical attack which the U.S., France and Britain blame on Bashar Assad's regime.

The US ambassador to the United Nations says her country will impose more sanctions on Russian Federation early this week for allegedly enabling the Syrian government to use chemical weapons.

"Russia will surely respond, but most likely through counter-sanctions created to address the overall degradation of the US-Russian relationship, rather than militarily against US soldiers in Syria", Eurasia Group, a risk advisory firm, said in an emailed note. "We warned that such actions will not be left without consequences".

Russian Federation likely to call United Nations meeting over Syria attack, says lawmaker
Wednesday: Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Russian military inspectors found no evidence of a chemical attack. "Russia was supposed to guarantee Assad would not use chemical weapons, and Russian Federation did the opposite".

Britain has accused Russian Federation of poisoning them with a Soviet-designed agent, an accusation that Moscow denies.

Macron, speaking on French television BFM and online site Mediapart, said "we are preparing a political solution" aiming at allowing a political solution for Syria. A top leader of Jaish al-Islam, a group which controlled Douma for years, told Agence France-Presse (AFP) it was Saturday's attack that forced them to accept a Russian-brokered deal and evacuate.

"Insulting the President of Russian Federation is unacceptable and inadmissible", he added. The Nazi forces' opening attack against the USSR in 1941 was launched around 4 a.m., the same time in Russian Federation that Friday's attack occurred.

Putin responded to Saturday's attack by calling the strikes "an act of aggression against a sovereign state that is at the forefront of the fight against terrorism". Russian Ambassador to Beirut Alexander Zasypkin cited orders by Russian President Vladimir Putin. "History will put everything in its place, and it has already laid heavy responsibility on Washington for bloody reprisals against Yugoslavia, Iraq and Libya".

US, France, Britain launch strikes on Syria
The U.S. notified Israel on Friday before it carried out missile strikes on Syrian targets, an Israeli official told Reuters . Several opposition party leaders also issued statements praising the retaliation for the use of chemical weapons.

"This is grotesque", Pierce told reporters as she left an emergency meeting of the U.N. Security Council.

The Russian military says that an alleged chemical attack in Syria was staged and directed by Britain.

"The targets tonight again were specifically designed to degrade the Syrian war machine's ability to create chemical weapons and to set that back", Mattis said. State TV channels compared what they described as U.S. President Donald Trump's reckless action with the responsible, statesmanlike stance taken by Putin. The United States and its satellites are trying to undermine worldwide law.

In response to the alleged poison gas attack in the town of Douma that killed dozens of civilians last week, the strike was aimed at cutting off chemical weapons production in Syria.
