US to Impose Sanctions on Russia Following Syrian Chemical Attack

The moment - especially the "Mission Accomplished" on the banner - dogged Bush for the remainder of his presidency.

Russian Federation said it was being "threatened" and said the air strikes "will not be left without consequences" in a statement from its ambassador to the US, Anatoly Antonov, posted on Twitter.

· Syria and its allies, Russian Federation and Iran, have repeatedly called the alleged gas attack in Douma a "fabrication" used to justify military intervention.

"They 100 percent met their objective. Mission Accomplished!" he tweeted.

"A perfectly executed strike last night", he tweeted. "That's what the president is referring to", she said. "I think everyone knows that we sent a strong message, and our hope is that they listen to us", she added. "It's actually much more complicated".

The Syrian army announced on Saturday that Douma's Eastern Ghouta region had been cleared of the last rebel fighters and was fully retaken.

Jets top Wild 3-2 in playoff opener
The concept of a whiteout was less fun for the Jets come Saturday, as they tried to make their way to the Twin Cities for Game 3. With so many games in so little time many players skip the morning skate in the playoffs anyway.

"You are not only placing yourselves above global law, but you are trying to re-write worldwide law", Nebenzia said. Russia, whose ties with the West have sunk to levels of the Cold War-era, denies any gas attack in Douma and said Britain staged it to whip up anti-Russian hysteria.

"I urge all Member States to show restraint in these risky circumstances and to avoid any acts that could escalate the situation and worsen the suffering of the Syrian people", he said.

Will there be more Western attacks?

Russian Federation and its ally Syria called the attack fabricated and said no evidence of chemical weapons use exists in Douma.

Russian Federation resoundingly criticized the airstrikes as a violation of worldwide law and warned that the airstrikes "will not be left without consequences".

White also said the United States is "very confident" that the Assad regime was behind the chemical weapons attack on civilians.

Skripal confirmed that she was safe and had specially trained officers available to her during the recovery. I mean, after all, 15 exiled Russians in the United Kingdom have been poisoned in the past 20 years or so.

British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said on Sunday no further strikes were planned but that this would be reassessed if more chemical attacks took place. The NATO alliance gave its full backing; NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said in Brussels that the attack was about ensuring that chemical weapons can not be used with impunity. Analysts and diplomats said the strike was unlikely to shake Assad's hold on power or change the trajectory of the conflict.

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called the attack a crime and the Western leaders criminals, while UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged all Security Council members to use restraint, but said charges of chemical weapons use demand investigation. "Therefore, we will keep you all abreast of the facts moving forward".

What was targeted by the US, UK and France?

"They will go directly to any sort of companies that were dealing with equipment related to Assad and chemical weapons use", she said.

The OPCW will determine whether chemical weapons were used, but will not assign blame. The strikes were carried out by manned aircraft and from ships that launched cruise missiles from the Mediterranean Sea. She claimed the attacks set back Syrian chemical weapons research by years.

North Atlantic Treaty Organisation members Germany and the Netherlands have said they will not take part in any military action. If confirmed, the town's seizure would mark the last stage of Assad's takeover of the rebel-held enclave of eastern Ghouta.
