More than 200 million eggs recalled for salmonella concerns

More than 200 million eggs recalled for salmonella concerns

Even FDA Commission, Scott Gottlieb, MD, has acknowledged the outbreak, sending out a series of tweets on the outbreak and listing the brand names that are now impacted.

Some of the eggs brands involved in the recall were distributed at Food Lion stores, Walmart Inc. and Waffle House restaurants, the AP reported.

Almost 207 million eggs were recalled this weekend for possible salmonella contamination after 22 people became ill.

The 53 items affected by the recall include brands like Country Daybreak, Coburn Farms, Crystal Farms, Sunshine Farms and Glenview, with some eggs sold at Food Lion stores, CNN said.

Ian Poulter takes one-shot lead into final round of RBC Heritage
Poulter, the 54-hole leader, held steady on the front nine as he went out in 1-under 35 and remained around the lead. He had six final-round bogeys in a closing 72, so it was incredible he was still in it in the first place.

Salmonella infections sicken 1.2 million people in the USA every year, leading to about 23,000 hospitalizations and 450 deaths.

The infections were first reported in early March. The recall is equivalent to nearly 10 days' production at the farm, which produces 2.3-million eggs a day.

The FDA said the eggs can potentially be contaminated with Salmonella Braenderup, which is an organism that could cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

Michael Pollan, author ofThe Omnivore's Dilemma, frequently comments about the true costs of such large-scale, high-risk food-production plants, and why it may be worth it to pay more for our eggs.

Global 'chaos' looms if West bombs Syria again - Putin
He added that France wanted to launch a diplomatic initiative over Syria that would include Western powers, Russia, and Turkey. Mr Trump already made clear his commitment to further hit Syria, should Mr Assad attempt to use chemical weapons again.

In February, Triple T Specialty Meats, based in Ackley, Iowa, recalled more than 20,000 pounds (9072 kilograms) of ready-to-eat chicken salad products that may have been contaminated with salmonella.

Infectious disease outbreaks seem to be springing up left and right in the United States, leaving health officials scrambling to get them under control. Many recover without treatment, aside from rest and rehydration, though it can take several months for bowel movements to normalize.

However, some cases turn so severe that patients need to be hospitalized. Food is the source for about 1 million of these illnesses.

Salmonella can come from contaminated animal products such as beef, poultry, milk and eggs, as well as fruits and vegetables. If you think you or a family member might be suffering from salmonella, see your doctor immediately.
