Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven receives PM Narendra Modi at Stockholm

PM Narendra Modi arrived in Stockholm on a first bilateral visit scripting history as an Indian PM in 30 years received a warm and personal welcome by Swedish PM to participate in the first ever India-Nordic Summit. This is the first bilateral visit by an Indian premier to the Nordic nation in 30 years. "I will be focusing on enhancing India-UK partnership in the areas of healthcare, innovation, digitisation, electric mobility, clean energy, and cyber security", the prime minister said.

Prime Minister Modi tweeted Sweden has been "a strong contributor to our "Make in India" program". They carried the banners that read: "Welcome PM" and shouted slogans of "Bharat Mata ki Jai" and said they are feeling as if they are at home (India).

"Sweden has been partner of India in defence sector for a long time".

He said, India and Sweden will jointly organize the India-Nordic Summit in Stockholm on Tuesday with the Prime Ministers of Finland, Norway, Denmark and Iceland.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today left for a five-day visit to Sweden and the United Kingdom, where he will attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). "The European Union is more sensitive to the issue now, which gives us an opportunity to sensitise them about the threat of terrorism and violent extremism, and how these groups are active in our neighborhood, particularly in South Asia", she said.

Prime Minister Stefan Lofven described India as a global powerhouse that and is driving positive changes in keeping with Sustainable Development goals across the world.

"The main theme of our discussions today was how to develop a win-win partnership between Sweden and India through the opportunities offered by India's development programmes", Modi said. Mr Modi said, his visit to London presents another opportunity for both countries to infuse fresh momentum to this growing bilateral engagement. The two leaders also discussed ways to deepen trade and business relations between the two countries.

Both Prime Ministers called for greater unity and stronger worldwide partnership to counter terrorism, disrupt terrorist networks and financing, and to prevent violent extremism. I would also call on His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf, King of Sweden.

Modi is in Stockholm on the first leg of his five-day foreign tour. He will attend the CHOGM in London from April 19 to 20.
