Pompeo Nomination Officially Moving to the Senate Floor

Nominee for U.S. Secretary of State and current CIA Director Mike Pompeo is facing an uphill battle for his confirmation, thanks in part to opposition from several Jewish organizations. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky) could still bring the confirmation vote to the Senate floor, although it would be the first time for a secretary of state nominee to fail to be recommended by the committee since 1925. Pompeo now is the director of the Central Intelligence Agency.

U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) cited Pompeo's anti-LGBT and anti-Muslim comments as among the reasons he voted against his nomination.

As for Pompeo, Paul told reporters, "He's assured me that he's learned the lesson" of Iraq and "has incorporated the idea that the Iraq war was a mistake".

"Today in my Senate office, I was pleased to have the opportunity to meet with CIA Director Mike Pompeo about his nomination to serve as our next Secretary of State". It also has given me a unique perspective on why I know Pompeo will be an excellent secretary of state. "Senate confirmation of anti-LGBTQ Mike Pompeo could have serious consequences for the United States and LGBTQ people around the globe".

On Monday, the nomination for Pompeo advanced out of committee with a favorable recommendation, following a last-minute reversal from GOP Sen. Trump recently predicted he would come around again on Pompeo, calling Paul "a good man" who has "never let us down".

Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Arizona, had also expressed some reservations about Pompeo, but told CBS News' Ed O'Keefe that he had also made a decision to support Pompeo's nomination. Sen.

The process did hit a slight snag as senators prepared for the final vote on Monday, however, as Sen. "Our plans include proposing regulatory changes to remove H-4 dependent spouses from the class of aliens eligible for employment authorisation, thereby reversing the 2015 final rule that granted such eligibility", US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Director Francis Cissna wrote in a letter to Senator Chuck Grassley after weeks of reviewing a rule that allowed almost 100,000 H1B spouses on a h-4 visas to work legally in the US. Bob Corker, blames partisan politics for opposition to Pompeo, saying the Central Intelligence Agency chief is just as qualified as past nominees for secretary of state. "How many Republcians [sic] opposed Hillary or Kerry over their extreme abortion views?" Maggie Hassan also said she will vote against Pompeo, despite supporting his nomination as Central Intelligence Agency director.

"The other concern I heard was that they're concerned that he'll be too focused on the use of force rather than diplomacy and I would just direct you to his testimony before the committee", Mr. Portman, Ohio Republican, said on Fox News.

Quite a few teams are looking to trade up high in the first round to pursue one of the top quarterbacks. Both players' spots on the roster are tenuous, at best.
