Roberto Firmino commits his long-term future to Liverpool

Liverpool have confirmed a new "long-term" contract for striker Roberto Firmino, making him the Reds' highest paid player.

Firmino has always been a consistent performer for Liverpool but is enjoying his most prolific campaign this term, helping Jurgen Klopp's side reach the Champions League semi-finals.

Klopp noted in November that the forward "looks like the engine of the team", and that is a moniker Firmino gracefully accepts.

After signing the deal, Firmino told Liverpool's official website that he had little to think about when putting pen to paper.

Post positions may not matter for the long haul, but they can make all the difference in the scrum at the beginning of the race. Bolt d'Oro and the lightly raced Hofburg have to be considered as well, if not as highly as some of the others in the race.

"I love to play for Liverpool FC. We've grown a lot and now we are showing that with the results on the pitch".

The Brazil global signed a new long-term deal with Liverpool, the club announced on Sunday.

For Firmino, northern English fans have also lived up to their reputation since his arrival and have gone the extra mile to show their gratitude to their number 9. "My team-mates are fantastic and I am very grateful to be able to play with them at this club".

The Brazil worldwide moved to Anfield from Bundesliga club Hoffenheim in 2015 and has established himself as an integral member of Jurgen Klopp's side.

The 26 year old joined Liverpool in the summer of 2015 and his new deal will take him through to the summer of 2023.
