The eggs were sold under various brand names, including Coburn Farms, Country Daybreak and Crystal Farms.

Twelve more people have been reported sick since the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) first issued an advisory about the outbreak in April, the organization announced Thursday.

According to the Post, Rose Acre Farms has come under scrutiny in the past for salmonella contamination.

The outbreak is linked to Rose Acre Farms, whose eggs were distributed to restaurants or sold at major grocery stores such as Walmart and Food Lion. Eleven people have been hospitalized for complications related to the infections, the CDC said, but no deaths have been reported.

There are differences in the Publix and Sunups egg cartons, which feature the P-1359D plant number and the Julian dates of 048A or 049A, with best dates of April 2 and April 3. It says that it has never experienced any problems with its North Carolina farm and that a recall was done in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. At times, infections could be fatal, especially in young children or elderly people. The recall by the CDC affects eggs that are labeled with the P-1065 plant number with the Julian date range of 011 to 102 printed on the package.

The egg recall is the largest in the United States since 2010, when 500 million eggs from an Iowa producer were recalled, and almost 2,000 illnesses caused by salmonella were reported. "Rose Acre Farms takes food safety and the welfare of our hens, workers, and consumers very seriously". This means from January 11 to April 12.
