Wayne Rooney waiting on result of talks over Sam Allardyce's Everton future

The Everton manager confirmed on Friday that negotiations had taken place over a move to DC United for Rooney, who has another year on his contract plus a 12-month option that can be activated by the club.

The talented forward originally left his boyhood club in 2004 as an 18-year-old before spending 13 glittering seasons with Manchester United, winning five Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League in 2008.

The Everton boss has also suggested that Rooney has not informed him that he wants to leave the club and that the pair have not fallen out, but then went on to state that he does not know what is happening with any transfer.

Sam Allardyce has spoke out regarding Wayne Rooney's potential transfer to DC United and insists the striker hasn't asked to leave Everton.

"The legacy he has brought to the Premier League, the goals, the trophies, everything he has done at Manchester United, England and here, he is an incredible player", Walcott told Sky Sports, with Rooney set to miss Sunday's final game of the season at West Ham due to a minor knee problem.

"Certainly the deal is not done, but obviously there's some interest from our end", said Olsen, who seemed surprised to be tackled on the topic by celebrity news website TMZ as he walked through an airport.

He rejoined Everton in July 2017 and scored 11 goals before Christmas but has not been an automatic pick for Allardyce in recent weeks.

He added: "Wayne is a special player but if any player wants to leave they can, in my opinion".

The Englishman is well loved by the club's supporters but his class doesn't impress many others who perhaps don't watch him on a regular basis.

"Wayne is the leading goalscorer but quite a few of those are penalties so that is the main aim if you are going to finish higher in the league".
