California kids endured 'sadistic' torture, prosecutor says

Fairfield police arrested Allen, 29, on Friday and he faces felony charges of torture and abuse.

Nine other children were found living in what Fairfield police Lt. Greg Hurlbut called "squalid and unsafe conditions". In interviews the children described incidents of intentional abuse resulting in puncture wounds, burns, bruising and injuries consistent with being shot with a BB gun or pellet gun.

The 10 children, aged between four months and 12 years, were removed from the home in Fairfield on 31 March after their mother Ina Rogers, 30, reported that the oldest child had gone missing. He was booked into the Solano County Jail on nine counts of felony torture and six counts of felony child abuse.

The 10 children were placed in protective custody by Solano County Child Welfare services before being put into the care of family relatives.

Authorities say that their investigation revealed years of both physical and mental abuse of the children.

"That's why this is absolutely insane", Rogers said of the children's father.

After returning him, the officials searched the boy's home due to concerns regarding safety and health of the child and his siblings.

Rogers said she feels the family is being judged for having so many children and choosing to home-school them. Messages left with the Solano County public defender's office were not returned.

The children have also detailed years of abuse, according to police. "I work graveyard." Rogers said.

She went on to say she was surprised police had charged the most serious accusations against her husband, as he wasn't the disciplinarian of the family. Rogers denied the children were mistreatment.

As a result of that investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for the children's father.
