Apple's California Self-Driving Car Test Fleet Continues to Grow

But now, the Cupertino tech giant is reaping the fruits of its ramped-up investment in the new technology, beating out Tesla and Waymo for the second-most self-driving vehicle permits with the DMV, according to a report from the Apple-focused tech blog Mac Reports.

Apple has doubled the number of its self-driving cars this year, and now has the second-largest fleet in California, Mac Reports first pointed out.

Apple rapidly grew out its fleet from three in April 2017.

The self-driving auto permits issued by California's DMV require a safety driver to be on board to grab the wheel at any time.

Paris attacker pledged loyalty to ISIS
Police said the attacker's motives were still unknown. The attack comes as France is under a constant threat from terrorism. A French official says the Chechen man behind a deadly stabbing in central Paris had been on police radar for radicalism.

Apple has so far been using Lexus RX450h sports utility cars equipped with LIDAR tech and a bunch of cameras, rather than an actual automobile it designed from the ground up.

Behind Apple is Alphabet's Waymo which now has 51 self-driving vehicles and Elon Musk-owned Tesla which has 39 cars.

In total, there are 53 permit holders for self-driving vehicles in the state of California.

This indicates a margin of error that's worth considering before rushing into fully self-driving trials; before the public can accept autonomous cars as a reliable alternative, companies need to gain its trust.

Facebook has removed 583 million fake accounts this year
In addition, Facebook stated that from the remaining accounts, a mere three to four percent were fake . Meanwhile, Facebook's rate of squashing fake accounts is actually decreasing.

It's important to note that companies like Waymo and Uber used to have more self-driving cars in California.

Apple's quickly growing fleet of cars suggests that it's certainly taking self-driving development seriously.

Apple has been secretly working on its own self-driving vehicle program for years, but during that time it hasn't shared much information about the project.

Apple still hasn't publicly announced its plans when it comes to autonomous cars.
