Tennessee joins states suing OxyContin maker

"My office is holding Purdue Pharma accountable for fueling the nation's opioid epidemic by deceptively marketing prescription painkillers including OxyContin when it knew their drugs were potentially unsafe", Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said.

Josephson added that Purdue announced in February it ended promotion of opioids to doctors and restructured and significantly reduced its commercial operation.

Florida also sued drugmakers Endo Pharmaceuticals Inc, Allergan, units of Johnson & Johnson and Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, and Mallinckrodt, as well as drug distributors AmerisourceBergen Corp, Cardinal Health Inc and McKesson Corp.

Slatery leads a multistate group of attorneys general who are investigating manufacturers and distributors and, while not a party, is voluntarily engaging in settlement discussions in connection with the federal opioid multidistrict litigation pending in Cleveland, Ohio, according to the release.

Six US states sued OxyContin maker Purdue Pharma on Tuesday for alleged deceptive trade practices related to its marketing of the opioid painkiller. The lawsuit also accuses Purdue Pharma of targeting seniors and other "vulnerable" populations.

MA last week sent a letter to Purdue notifying the company of its intention to sue.

The drug manufacturer denied the lawsuits' allegations and said it is disappointed that after months of good faith negotiations working toward a meaningful resolution to help the state of Tennessee address the opioid crisis, the attorney general has unilaterally chose to pursue a costly and protracted litigation process.

Britain, France and Germany are working to secure measures to protect European countries working in Iran against the danger of U.S. sanctions.

The state alleges that Purdue made unsubstantiated claims regarding the benefits of long-term opioids treatment and falsely represented that opioid use improved patients' function and quality of life.

Paxton's office filed a lawsuit against Purdue in Travis County District Court on Tuesday. The attorneys general of five other states took similar legal action today against the Stamford, Connecticut-based pharmaceutical giant.

"We vigorously deny these allegations and look forward to the opportunity to present our defense".
