Chelsea are prepared to meet Napoli's asking price for Kalidou Koulibaly as Maurizio Sarri edges closer to succeed Antonio Conte at the club. Under Italian manager employment laws the sacking club retains the rights to his contract even after dispensing with him, which allowed Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis to demand that Chelsea pay Sarri's €8m release clause to obtain his services.

Asked how Sarri might fare at Chelsea, Ranieri told Sky Italia: "It depends on what Maurizio is like - he'd hardly see the president [Abramovich], he would need to work a lot and that's something he doesn't lack".
