Anthony Bourdain's death impacts local community

Dr. Christine Moutier, a psychiatrist and chief medical officer for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, said Friday it's important for everyone to know the warning signs and to intervene when family members, friends or co-workers appear troubled.

A new USA report shows the nation's suicides had risen by 30 per cent since 1999, and that the crisis was a growing problem. Suicide rates were higher among males in Maryland, ranging from about 17 to 18 per 100,000 males.

North Dakota experienced the greatest increase (57 percent). In Missouri, suicides are up more than 36 percent, in IL they have increased almost 23 percent.

Close to 45,000 people died by suicide in 2016, more than double the amount who died from homicide.

Hamilton blunder leads to seven-year first
Asked about his driving style on Thursday after arriving in Montreal , he said, "I get really exhausted of all the questions". Montreal has been kind to the British driver, who claimed his maiden F1 win at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in 2007.

Numerous factors seem to increase the risk of suicide, such as relationship problems, substance misuse, physical health challenges, financial issues or legal problems, the report found.

Solutions for curbing the suicide rate include states and communities identifying and supporting those at risk, teaching coping and problem solving skills, promoting safe and supportive environments, and offering more activities to bring people together.

"The findings further reinforce the need to address suicide prevention through a robust, coordinated, multisector approach that combines health care system efforts with community efforts", the National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention said in a statement about the report.

"We are highly aware we still have high rates, but we will never give up".

The back to back deaths of Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain are part of a disturbing trend.

Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death and one of just three leading causes that are on the rise.

Developed in Switzerland, the programme is based on the belief that it is more helpful to view suicide as an action taken in order to reach a goal, rather than simply a symptom of mental illness. "Talk to a mental help professional or if they're already involved in a mental health professional get involved in the treatment of that individual".

The CDC said many people associate mental-health conditions with suicide, but it's rare for a single factor to lead someone to take their own life. The direct line to her crisis center is 516-679-1111.
