Kabul welcomes Taliban's agreement to truce

The terrorist group, Taliban, were responsible for two assaults in Afghanistan, even after having agreed upon not a three day cease fire for the occasion of Eid-al-Fitr.

Taliban insurgents announced only three days of a cease-fire, promising not to launch attacks against the Afghan government during that time.

At least 15 security personnel killed in a Taliban attack in Kunduz province of Afghanistan, a local news agency reported.

However, the movement warned in a "WhatsApp" statement that it will continue operations against the foreign troops stationed in Afghanistan, adding that it will strongly defend itself against any attack.

Hours before accepting the truce, the militants stormed military bases in western and northern Afghanistan, killing almost 40 soldiers.

Arif Noori, a spokesman for the governor of the Ghazni province, said women and children were among those killed in the blast, which also wounded three people. The conflict has been at a stalemate for several years, and NATO's best chances of leaving lie in the Taliban agreeing to peace talks and eventually joining the government.

The Afghan government will stop all offensives against Taliban from June 12-20. "So, nevertheless, we hope that the combination of the two will trigger further engagement and real peace dialogue", said Mayaudon.

Ghani's move came days after a gathering of Afghanistan's top clerics in Kabul called for a ceasefire and issued a fatwa against suicide bombings and attacks.

Many Afghans believe that the government's cease-fire pledge came at the urging of the United States, which is looking for a way out of the war after sending thousands more troops a year ago to bolster Afghan forces.
