Memphis woman seen letting young girl out of pet kennel


A concerned citizen shot the video and forwarded it to the police.

Ms Cheeks can be seen opening the cage doors to the kennels as the children hop out. Moments later, a girl straightens her bent knees to emerge from the pet enclosure.

Leimone Cheeks, 62, was charged with two counts of child endangerment on Saturday, reported Local Memphis.

According to her Facebook and LinkedIn pages, Cheeks was a Senior Technical Analyst at FedEx for 18 years.

The news station wrote that the two children told police they were hot in the kennels as there were no vents in the back of the vehicle, and temperatures soared to over 30 degrees celsius (86F). Moreover, nobody knows for certain yet whether this was the first time that Cheeks ever asked the kids to stay inside the pet kennels during drives.

Skylarr Blake, Cheeks' neighbor, told WATN that Cheeks was a "nice lady" and that he couldn't "see her doing that". Not saying its going to change but eyes are open now.

"It's shocking, it really is", Blake told WATN.

Mrs Cheeks had also allegedly shut a seven-year-old child in a separate cage, both of which had an enclosed roof and only a small front-facing metal window.

Police in Tennessee say a woman, identified as Leimome Cheeks, was charged after mobile phone video emerged of the incident. Court records show an arraignment scheduled for Monday has been continued until July 9, when she will tell a judge if she has hired a lawyer of if the court will need to appoint one.
