President Trump meets Kim Jong Un

President Trump meets Kim Jong Un

President Donald Trump listens as he meets with Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong ahead of a summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, June 11, 2018, in Singapore.

South Korean news agency The Chosunilbo reported that when Kim arrived in Singapore this week on an Air China Boeing 747, he also was accompanied by an IL-76 transport plane carrying food, "his bullet-proof limousine and a portable toilet".

"Chairman Kim thanked Prime Minister Lee for Singapore's hosting of the US-DPRK Summit", the document adds.

Hundreds of North Korean security experts have no doubt been up nights wondering how to safeguard Kim Jong Un since Trump shocked the world by accepting the North's invitation to meet.

President Donald Trump said Monday his historic summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore could "work out very nicely" as officials from both countries met to narrow differences on how to end a nuclear stand-off on the Korean peninsula.

"Why would Kim Jong Un insult me by calling me "old, ' when I would NEVER call him 'short and fat"?" he tweeted.

Korean Studies Institute director David Kang said: "The most we can hope to get out of this is that Kim and Trump find that they can have some working relationship".

But Mr Trump warned "he was prepared to walk away" if the summit did not go well.

Delegations from both sides are making final preparations before the meeting. Now North Korean officials will nearly certainly emphasise preventing any sudden mishaps in Kim Jong Un's first visit to a foreign country other than China or South Korea since taking power, said Kim Doo-hyun, professor of protection politics at Korea National Sport University.

"For Kim anything but a clear failure will be seen as a success, while for Trump anything that is not a clear success will be deemed as a failure", a senior member of the Russian Foreign Affairs Council Andrei Kortunov told Sputnik.

Trump initially touted the potential for a grand bargain with North Korea to rid itself of a nuclear missile programme that has advanced rapidly to threaten the United States, insisting he would swiftly achieve what previous USA administrations have failed to do.

Asia stocks shook off initial modest losses and edged up on Monday ahead of an historic U.S.

On the summit's eve, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo drew a firm line, saying the USA plans to keep sanctions in place until North Korea eliminates its nuclear weapons capability.

North Korea is one of the most insular states in the world and command and control of its nuclear facilities is kept within a tight, impenetrable circle.

The rare public appearance of Kim, waving and smiling to onlookers, adds to the more affable image of the young leader that has emerged since his summit in April with South Korean leader Moon Jae-in.

He said on Thursday that he didn't think he had to prepare very much for the summit and that "it's about attitude". The North Korean autocrat's every move will be followed by 3,000 journalists up until he shakes hands with Trump.

The North has faced diplomatic and economic sanctions as it has advanced development of its nuclear and ballistic missile programs. He told reporters he thinks he will know nearly immediately whether a deal can be made, saying: "I will know, just my touch, my feel".

However, Watanabe of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation said it's time for Japan to reach out to North Korea on its own instead of counting on the mercurial Trump to mediate an Abe-Kim summit. "I also think I'll know whether or not it will happen fast".

"North Korea has been preparing for this meeting for this meeting for 45 years, " he said.

Lyon Cancel Dealings With Liverpool Over Nabil Fekir Transfer
Fekir is one of the best attacking players in Europe who would be a great signing or Liverpool in the summer transfer window. Liverpool were obviously cautious of spending £54 million on a player that could have a long-term knee issue.
