Singapore spin cycle: Trump, Kim prepare for nuclear summit

Authorities have beefed up security around the hotels where Trump and Kim (Saint Regis) will be staying in central Singapore.

Here is a rundown of the biggest actions that took place overnight, as Singapore is 12 hours ahead of Eastern Daylight Time.

Donald Trump has made a decision to leave his historic summit with Kim Jong-un 15 hours earlier than expected, flying back to Washington on Tuesday night instead of Wednesday morning.

Singapore will spend about 20 million dollars to host the historic summit between Trump and Kim, Prime Minister Loong revealed.

Daily NK, a South Korean website focusing on North Korea news, reported in 2015 that "the restrooms are not only in Kim Jong Un's personal train but whatever small or midsize cars he is traveling with and even in special vehicles that are designed for mountainous terrain or snow".

"I think we should take some optimism from that reporting", the official said.

Putin says he'll meet with Trump whenever United States is ready
President Donald Trump to join them for a family photo at the G7 Summit in Charlevoix, Que., on June 8, 2018. He's punishing our allies, he's not showing them very much respect, showing up at this meeting late.

"I think the minimum would be a relationship".

Trump himself seemed optimistic as well.

The sudden change in schedule added to a dizzying few days for foreign policy for Trump, who shocked US allies over the weekend when he used a meeting of the Group of 7 industrialized economies in Canada to alienate America's closest friends in the West. Lashing out over trade practices, he lobbed insults at the G-7 host, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. "We appreciate your hospitality and professionalism and friendship". And Secretary of State Mike Pompeo sought to keep expectations for the summit in check.

Nobody is pretending North Korea can ape Singapore but the message to Kim of the hermit kingdom is clear - come in from the cold on the steaming hot humid south Asian island of Singapore.

Ex-Trump aide Paul Manafort faces more charges in Russian Federation inquiry
Manafort's response begins by rubbishing the basis of Mueller's witness tampering charges as "dubious" and "very specious". Mueller's office has referred to " Person A " in previous court filings; the New York Times has confirmed it is Kilimnik.

He explained that he gave the North Korean official Trump's book, "Art of the Deal", while he was in North Korea.

Over the next few days, The Drum will bring you the latest on the summit with an industry perspective. The article also stresses the need for confidentiality - meaning Trump will have to resist tweeting the minutes of the meeting.

The highly-anticipated talks had been put at risk when, on May 24, Trump announced he was canceling the meeting with Kim due to Pyongyang's hostile rhetoric.

"The entire world is watching the historic summit between (North Korea) and the United States of America", Mr Kim told Mr Lee through an interpreter when they met Sunday.

The two leaders are set to meet on Tuesday at the Capella Hotel on Sentosa for talks which could see North Korea dismantle its nuclear arsenal in return for economic help and security guarantees.
