Neal E Boyd Dead: 'America's Got Talent' Winner Dies, Aged 42

Opera singer Neal Boyd, victor of the 2008 season of America's Got Talent, has sadly passed away at the age of 42. He also sang Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA" at the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla.

Boyd won the network TV show and its $1 million prize in 2008.

The opera singer was best known as the champion of the third series of the U.S. talent show back in 2008, when he was hailed by judges Sharon Osbourne, Piers Morgan and David Hasselhoff.

TMZ is reporting that the cause of death is heart failure, and Neal had a known heart condition at the time of his death.

Scott County Coroner Scott Amick tells The Blast that Boyd passed away at his mother's house in Sikeston, Mo.

Former AGT judge Piers Morgan took to Twitter to mourn the loss of Boyd.

Neal Evans Boyd was born November 18, 1975, and grew up in Sikeston.

Last year Neal and his mother Esther were involved in a near-fatal auto crash when the vehicle he was driving hit two trees. "[Recovery is] a very slow progress. It's been hard, because you can't get up on stage right now, you can't perform for the audiences and you can't really do too much recording or traveling". "You have these 'down moments, ' whether it be health or physical, like it is now, and it just feels like something great is about to happen once I get back on my feet and back in front of the audience again".
