Raccoon scales St. Paul office tower, captivating public

Onlookers, reporters and social media users fretted about the welfare of the critter as it climbed the UBS Tower on Tuesday. Finally, at 2:30am on Wednesday, the hero raccoon reached the summit of the building and scampered off happily to find a waiting meal.

Shortly after 7 a.m. Wednesday, Sheila Donnelly from the law firm on the top floor of the building confirmed the raccoon has been caught by a live trap - ending the epic saga.

The St. Paul Raccoons jerseys will be auctioned off with proceeds being donated to the Minnesota Wildlife Services.

As we learned from a yarn from Minnesota Public Radio'sTim Nelson, it stayed there overnight before scrambling up the UBS building.

The woodland creature also had its own Twitter account, with one tweet saying: "'I made a big mistake".

According to Minnesota Public Radio, which dubbed the raccoon #MPRRaccoon, the animal escaped to the roof of the two-storey building after spending much of Monday tucked away on the ledge.

Instead, the spooked animal began scaling the slightly-curved edifice of the building, not stopping until it reached UBS's 22nd floor, where it began licking the window of a swanky office. At one point there were more than 4500 people watching the raccoon climb to the top.

Brickley said the raccoon would likely move during the night when attention faded.

"This raccoon has to rescue itself", Nelson said.
