President Donald Trump said Wednesday morning that North Korea no longer poses a nuclear threat to the USA after his meeting this week in Singapore with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, adding that Americans should "sleep well tonight".

Most Western observers have said the deal includes no new commitments from North Korea nor details on how denuclearisation could be achieved or verified.

"I don't think they're so confident right now", the president said.

In one photo on the front page, Trump was featured gesturing the way forward for Kim Jong Un, while four of the eight photos on the front page featured them shaking hands.

Trump and Kim are meeting in Singapore for historic talks aimed at finding a way to end a nuclear standoff on the Korean peninsula.

The joint statement says that "President Trump committed to provide security guarantees to the DPRK, and Chairman Kim Jong Un reaffirmed his firm and unwavering commitment to complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula". The US had sided with South Korea in the conflict.

In his post-summit press conference, Trump made the surprise announcement that the U.S. would halt joint military exercises with its security ally Seoul something long sought by Pyongyang, which claims the drills are a rehearsal for invasion.

Later, he echoed Trump's baiting of Trudeau, repeating the line that the Canadian statesman is " weak " and " dishonest ". The comments dashed hopes that Trump had moved on from what he believed to be was a " dishonest " action by Trudeau.
