Political bias did not affect Clinton probe, watchdog report finds

Clinton was often scrutinized during the 2016 presidential campaign trail for using a private email server when she served as secretary of state during the Obama administration.

But examining the actions the Federal Bureau of Investigation took, the inspector general concluded that Mr. Strzok "was not the sole decisionmaker" and, in fact, "advocated for more aggressive investigative measures" against Ms. Clinton. "We'll stop it", he responded. The inspector general has previously unearthed an exchange of pro-Clinton, anti-Trump texts between the two.

Mueller reassigned Strzok last summer after the anti-Trump messages came to light.

The Special Counsel is probing allegations that Russian Federation interfered in the 2016 USA presidential election, as well as accusations that Trump's campaign team colluded with Moscow to affect the outcome of the vote. Both said they did not discuss Hillary Clinton's case.

"Once [Trump] won, [Strzok] got on the Mueller probe and wanted to impeach him", Gowdy said of findings in Inspector General Michael Horowitz' report. It would then be up to prosecutors to decide whether to bring criminal charges.

Comey declined to comment when approached Thursday in Minneapolis. The person was not authorized to speak on the record because the report is not yet public.

The Justice Department has also issued a stinging rebuke to the FBI for its handling of the email investigation.

Comey told "CBS This Morning" on May 4, 2018, he faced an impossible choice after new Clinton emails were discovered on a laptop belonging to Anthony Weiner.

Also criticized was Comey's decision, against the recommendation of the Justice Department, to reveal to Congress that the FBI was reopening the investigation following the discovery of new emails.

The report found no evidence that Comey's decision to disclose, on October 27, 2016, that the FBI was reopening the Clinton e-mail investigation was "influenced by political preferences".

Concerned about the "appearance that former President Clinton was influencing" the probe, Lynch began talking to her staff the next morning about possibly recusing herself from overseeing the investigation, according to the report. The investigatory conclusions were reached before the end of the witness interviews....

But Democrats argued that the report shows that Comey actually helped elect Trump. "The inspector determined there was policies not followed".

Over 17 months in the making, the report - anticipated to be released at 2 p.m. ET, according to a source familiar with the plan - is expected to walk through a sequence of key events leading up to the 2016 election.

Trump and the GOP have used the donation to paint McCabe as a Clinton ally. But he quickly added, "It's also important to note what the Inspector General did not find".

On Thursday, after a Department of Justice inspector general's report backed up the conclusion of that investigation, the former secretary of state must have felt some additional relief. "The stark conclusion we draw after reviewing this report", Reps. They asked Horowitz to provide them with his original drafts.

"As far as the report goes, there are some sobering lessons in there", Wray said in a brief press conference held shortly after the 500-page report was made public. "However, I have no faith that those under investigation are also able to provide an unbiased review and edit the IG's work".

"But even in hindsight I think we chose the course most consistent with institutional values", Comey wrote.

David de Gea: I'm very happy in Manchester
What happens is that what they said at the time was public and that's why I think that the apologies should also be in public. One hell of a day has gone by as Spain have sacked Julen Lopetegui a day before the World Cup begins.
