Brit exposed to deadly nerve agent regains consciousness

Charlie Rowley, 45, a heroin addict, regained consciousness yesterday at Salisbury district hospital, where doctors had seen a "small but significant improvement".

Basu, who is national lead for Counter Terrorism Policing, told residents of Amesbury he would "love to be able to say that we have identified and caught the people responsible and how we are certain there are no traces of nerve agent left anywhere in Wiltshire, but the brutal reality is that I can not offer you any reassurance or guarantee at this time".

In a statement today, Scotland Yard said: 'Officers from the investigation team have spoken briefly to Charlie and will be looking to further speak with him in the coming days as they continue to try and establish how he and Dawn came to be contaminated with the nerve agent'.

They have tested and ruled out a bus on which the pair travelled on Friday night but are still examining a red Transit van in which Mr Rowley travelled on Saturday.

They had both been taken to hospital in the city of Amesbury on June 30.

The match between No. 5 Juan Martin del Potro and Gilles Simon was suspended due to darkness and will resume Tuesday at 8 a.m. He next faces No. 13 Milos Raonic , who defeated Mackenzie McDonald of the US 6-3, 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-2.

Police have said their working theory is that the couple's exposure to the poison was linked to a recent attack on ex-Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia.

Tributes have been paid to mother-of-three Ms Sturgess, with her family saying: 'Dawn's death has been devastating for us.

Last week, Sturgess and Rowley were found collapsed at a residential building in Amesbury, Wiltshire, just eight miles north of Salisbury, where the Skripals were poisoned.

Yulia Skripal was discharged from hospital in April and her father was discharged in May.

The Kremlin said it was sorry to hear of Ms Sturgess's death but called the suggestion that Russian Federation was involved "absurd".

France take on Belgium for a place in the final
"We need to understand it's an important game, but I accept it's very hard after a game with the emotions we had today". Belgium's haul of 14 goals is the most at this stage of a World Cup since 2002, when eventual winners Brazil had 15.

The British government has accused Russian Federation of being behind the attack on Mr Skripal, who settled in the United Kingdom after a spy swap.

It was confirmed on Wednesday by scientists at the UK's chemical laboratory Porton Down that Ms Sturgess and Mr Rowley had been exposed to novichok.

Last night police seized a vehicle in Swindon in connection with the Novichok poisoning in Amesbury.

Sally Davies, Britan's chief medical adviser, also said the threat to the public is low but reinforced warnings to residents of Salisbury and Amesbury against touching stray containers, syringes, needles, cosmetics or similar objects.

His auto was sealed and taken away on the back of a truck.
