Antonio Conte’s Chelsea Departure Looks Set To Turn Ugly

Chelsea's players have returned to pre-season training at the club's base and will soon be introduced to their new manager as Conte departed the club yesterday afternoon.

Conte's been absent from all social media posts by the club, which has only fuelled rumours that he won't be in charge by the time the Premier League season starts in August.

Chelsea officially announced the departure of Antonio Conte this morning, with Maurizio Sarri expected to take over at Stamford Bridge.

Even though they lost the preceding T20 series they'll be confident and aiming to take momentum into next year's home World Cup. There might be a few surprises there (Test squad), we have a few days to pick the Test side.

"Thank you boss. Great man, great manager".

Conte leaves with the best win percentage 65.1% of any of Chelsea's managers in the Premier League era. "I wish you every success in the future".

Conte produced a record 30 Premier League wins during his maiden season, which has since been thwarted by Manchester City's 32 victories last season, while he now boasts Chelsea's longest consecutive league wins with 13.

Despite this, they managed to pick up some silverware by beating Manchester United 1-0 in the FA Cup final in May, though Conte had been anticipating the sack this summer.

Sarri's future has been up in the air since Napoli hired Carlo Ancelotti as its new coach in May.

As Conte and many of his predecessors have learned, even winning trophies is no guarantee of job security at Chelsea under Abramovich.

Goal celebrations are often memorable, especially the ones over goals that determined a World Cup finalist. But from the second half onwards we played much better, and we showed our real standard", said Perisic.

Sarri's got a buyout clause at Napoli rumoured to be in the region of €8 million while Conte will get a hefty severance package as well so the "switch" won't come cheap for the West Londoners.
