Israel Attacks Bases in South Syria; Syrian Air Defenses Intercept Some Missiles

On Wednesday, Israel fired a Patriot missile and took down the unmanned drone shortly after it infiltrated Israeli airspace.

The Israeli military said on Wednesday that it had shot down a drone from Syria that had entered its airspace.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu flew to Moscow to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin, Reuters reported.

Since mid-June, the Syrian army has conducted an operation in the south-west of the republic near the border with Israel against the terror group Jabhat al-Nusra (outlawed in Russia) and armed groups supporting it.

Israeli military spokesman Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus said the drone was constantly monitored and that it traveled about 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) inside Israeli territory.

"The IDF will continue to operate determinedly and decisively against any attempts to hurt Israeli civilians and breaches of Israeli sovereignty".

Syrian state media said the missiles targeted positions around Hader village in the southern province of Quneitra, near the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

Israel has threatened to open fire at any Syrian government forces that try to deploy in a demilitarised Golan buffer zone set up under a 1974 United Nations -monitored armistice.
