Amazon Prime Day is an increasingly significant online sales day for Amazon.

Prime Day was set to kick off at 3:00 p.m. ET on Monday, but shoppers reported experiencing issues within just a few minutes of its beginning. Almost half of all e-commerce goes through Amazon, according to research from eMarketer.

In Europe, however, Amazon employees were using Prime Day to draw attention to their complaints against the company. Amazon's Prime Day sale was concluded on Tuesday midnight, while the Flipkart Big Shopping Days sale will go on till Thursday.

The e-commerce giant extended Prime Day from 36 hours to 30 hours past year, and included many new countries (such as Australia) in 2018. Perhaps more importantly, though, was the surge in Prime membership.
