Last week, Iran's Deputy Ambassador and Charge d'Affaires Massoud Rezvanian Rahaghi, during an address at an event, cautioned New Delhi that it will stand to lose "special privileges" if it cuts import of Iranian oil following United States sanctions.

"We´ve said very specifically, there´s no blanket waivers, there´s no grandfathering", Mnuchin said, "We want to be very careful in the wind-down around the energy markets to make sure that people have the time".

"The State Department has the ability to issue waivers around significant reductions in the oil markets".

The U.S. has rejected requests from a group of ministers from Germany, France, the United Kingdom to provide exemptions to sanctions on Iran for certain industries.

President Donald Trump announced in May that the U.S. would pull out of the 2015 multinational nuclear deal and resume its sanctions on Iran.
