The blaze has crossed the Sacramento River and now threatens hundreds of homes on the western fringes of the city of Redding (Picture: AP) 'There have been some injuries to civilians and firefighters.' "As this fire was just exploding, it's just been inching closer and closer and closer to the station to the point where there was a neighborhood up in flames just about a mile away from the station, just across from the Sacramento River", Damante told ABC News' Paula Faris. "It's kind of amusing, we're going to LA to get some fresh air". Firefighters and others on hand are dealing with extremely dry conditions and risky temperature, which are expected to reach 110 fahrenheit on Friday (July 26).

"When you're dealing with temperatures that high, it's really, really hot heat", said Cal Fire spokesman Scott Kenney in a phone interview. The Carr Fire, which had been at around 6,500 acres with 24 percent containment late Wednesday, exploded in the night's wee hours and Cal Fire now lists it at 20,000 acres with 10 percent containment.

"They're in triple digits through Thursday" with no rain forecast, CNN meteorologist Haley Brink said.

The blaze has so far destroyed 65 buildings and damaged another 55, officials said.

As the Carr fire burned through Shasta Co., wildfires scorched several other parts of the state.

The blaze has burned dozens of homes in the communities of Shasta, Keswick and the west side of Redding, a city of about 92,000 people. Jerry Brown declared a state of emergency and ordered California's Office of Emergency Services to provide government assistance to Riverside County, and suspended a one-week waiting period for unemployment insurance benefits for those unemployed as a result of the Cranston Fire.

Elsewhere in the state, a huge forest fire continued to grow outside Yosemite National Park.

Elsewhere in California, the Ferguson Fire has prompted the closure of the most iconic areas of Yosemite National Park until Sunday, killed one person and injured several firefighters.

More than 3,300 firefighters are working the fire, aided by 16 helicopters.
