Russian Federation names Steven Seagal a special envoy to US

The Russian Foreign Ministry said Saturday that it had appointed the action star as a "special representative" for Russian-American humanitarian relations. 'I have worked tirelessly in this direction for many years unofficially and I am now very grateful for the opportunity to do the same thing officially'.

Seagal was granted Russian citizenship in 2016 and has praised President Putin as a great world leader.

Seagal has also been one of Putin's biggest supporters, and defended the Russian leader against charges of US election meddling during an interview with Piers Morgan on "Good Morning Britain" previous year.

Oil prices drop on oversupply concerns as OPEC output increased in July
A Reuters survey showed the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) increased production in July. Brent for September delivery settled at $74.29 a barrel, down 25 cents, or 0.34%, or a weekly gain of 1.7%.

Actor Steven Seagal attends the Russian Federation 2018 World Cup final football match between France and Croatia at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow on July 15. According to the statement, the position is unpaid and is similar to the role played by the United Nations' goodwill ambassadors.

Relations between the two countries have been fraught as USA intelligence agencies have accused Russian Federation of interfering in the 2016 elections and have warned it could do so again in the November contests. The two countries are also at odds over Syria and Ukraine. In his first big role in the 1988 movie Above the Law, Seagal played a former Central Intelligence Agency agent, and in one of his latest films, Mercenary: Absolution, he played a contract killer.

Seagal's fame peaked in the late 1980s and early 1990s with films such as Under Siege and Above the Law, but he remains hugely popular in eastern Europe and was granted both Russian and Serbian citizenships in 2016. Seagal has said that it's "stupid" to think that Russian Federation or any other country has the technology to tamper with voting.
