Brooklyn nail salon brawl over botched eyebrow wax sparks protests, racism accusations

Protests intensified at the Brooklyn nail salon where a worker and a customer were arrested and charged for their involvement in a violent altercation over a $5 botched eyebrow job. Ultimately, the three customers were treated like animals.

According to News12 in Brooklyn, Christina Thomas, 21, went to New Red Apple Nails on Friday night for a manicure, pedicure, and eyebrow wax. It's hard to tell who instigated the violence, but it appears to be the workers at the nail salon who are dealing the most force. Things got physical when employees blocked the women from leaving the store while waiting for police to arrive. According News12, Hiuyue Zheng is facing charges of assault, menacing, and criminal possession of a weapon. She was also released on her own recognizance, the Post reports.

Following the incident, residents have protested the salon and have called for its closing.

The two fires burning a few miles apart and known as the Mendocino Complex are being treated as one incident. The fire was started two weeks ago by sparks from a steel wheel of a towed-trailer's flat tire.

The clip has been viewed over 200,000 times.

Thomas was arrested on misdemeanour assault and other charges and was also released without bail, Daily Mail quoted New York Post report. Thomas says that when she refused to pay for the eyebrow job that she thought was done poorly, an argument ensued and escalated. "I said 'sit down, let me call the police". Thomas declined medical attention, the station reported.

Empress Ak wrote on Facebook, "I am standing with the elder who was thrown acetone in her face while her granddaughter was attacked".

Sandwiched in between a West Indian grocery store and a sneaker store, New Red Apple Nails is located on the edge of East Flatbush, a working-class neighborhood in Brooklyn.

The NY Post estimates around 150 people showed up to protest the nail salon on Monday, many holding signs reading "Black $$$ matter", "They beat black women here", and "Don't spend here".
