Indonesia quake deaths top 130

A magnitude 6.2 quake rocked Indonesia's Lombok on Thursday, with witnesses reporting collapsed buildings, the latest in a series of tremors on the tropical tourist island that have killed more than 150 people in the past two weeks.

Almost 1500 people have been hospitalised with serious injuries from Sunday's quake and more than 156,000 have been displaced due to the extensive damage to thousands of homes.

At least 130 people were killed in the magnitude 6.9 quake that rocked the country Sunday; Greg Palkot reports.

Officials said the quake's epicenter was on land and so there was no risk of a tsunami.

Another natural disaster has struck the Indonesian island of Lombok as the community battles to recover from Sunday's quake.

Spokesman Arifin Hadi says the tens of thousands people left homeless by Sunday's magnitude 7.0 quake need clean water and tarpaulins most of all.

Chinese officials are trying to reassure markets and the local population that the USA moves would have little impact. Timing will depend on the actions of the United States, the Chinese Commerce Ministry said in a separate statement.

The Red Cross has said that incident, which killed at least 131 people, was "exceptionally destructive".

The Red Cross said it was focusing relief efforts on an estimated 20,000 people yet to get any assistance.

The Indonesian military said that three Hercules transporter planes packed with food, medication, blankets, tents and water tanks had arrived in Lombok.

"We don't know for sure how many people are alive under the rubble", BNPB spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho told reporters.

He said: "People are always saying they need water and tarps".
