Ben Stokes trial shown ‘groin grab’ video

Jurors have been shown CCTV footage of England cricketer Ben Stokes involved in an alleged "melee" outside a nightclub with two other men.

Bristol Crown Court previously heard Ryan Ali, 28, and Ryan Hale, 27, were knocked unconscious by 27-year-old Mr Stokes, who denies affray.

Stokes is facing a charge of affray over a violent incident, which took place in the early hours of September 25 outside a club in Bristol.

The court heard Mr Spure identified Stokes to police officers, who then arrested the cricketer.

He told officers the pair "thanked me for preventing them from being beaten up" and that he acted in defence of himself, Mr Barry, Mr O'Connor and Mr Hales "at all times" and used reasonable and "entirely justified" force.

Stokes, who played a major role in England's win over India in the first Test at Edgbaston last week, will miss the second Test, which begins on Thursday at Lord's.

- "Groin grab" -On Wednesday, the third day of the trial, the court saw footage of Ali and Hale holding beer bottles and walking up a road with Barry and O'Connor - described by the prosecution as "openly gay" Mbargo regulars. "He had a green T-shirt on".

"These men were speaking to the gay guys in what I would call a harsh and abusive way", the statement said.

Paul said he met with Konstantin Kosachev, chairman of the Russia Federation Council on Foreign Affairs, in Moscow and discussed a visit.

But in a statement provided to police, Stokes denied both actions and insisted he only stepped in after hearing Ali and Hale being homophobic towards Mr Barry and Mr O'Connor.

He said he attempted to get between Stokes and Ryan Ali as Stokes appeared to be "the main aggressor" but, as he did so, Stokes punched Ali "with a clenched fist".

Cunningham claims Stokes started mimicking the voices and gestures of two gay nightclub patrons, Kai Barry and William O'Connor, in a derogatory manner. I felt I was going to be attacked.

"I decided at this point matters had become too serious to ignore and that I had to intervene to stop Ryan Ali. I was concerned for myself and others", he claimed.
